Play Klondike Solitaire Online

Welcome to the Solitaire Palace! Here, we, the hooked, gather to play the legendary Solitaire variety Klondike online. Our game is free, available cross-platform, connecting people across the globe, and adds competition to this patience game!

We do not only offer Klondike Solitaire. With a passion for detail, we worked on further popular card games: Check out our other patience games Spider and Scorpion. Have a try at our trick-taking games Skat, Pinochle, Doppelkopf, and Sheepshead or go classic with Canasta, Rummy, or Mau-Mau. Our websites in English are collected at the Palace of Cards, but you can play any Spiele Palast game in English.

Two Names, One Concept

One-player card games are traditionally called Solitaire in Northern America or Patience in Europe. Their objective is sorting shuffled and dealt cards by a certain order. They gained popularity as training for attention, memory, and patience. The origins of these games lie in the distant past. Terms, such as patience, solitaire, and tableau, indicate a strong French influence, though. By the end of the last century, the modern solitaire variations experienced an outright boom thanks to the development of PCs.

Challenging but Relaxed

One of the modern solitaire variations is Klondike, which we offer here at the Solitaire Palace! Here is a quick brush-up of Klondike’s basic rules: Klondike uses one deck of, traditionally French-suited, playing cards. Thus, the suits are Spades, Clubs, Hearts, and Diamonds. All 13 ranks – King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, Ace – occur once in each suit, resulting in 52 cards in total.

For setting up the table, 28 cards are dealt to seven piles in the middle of the table, the tableau. The first pile contains one card. The other six piles each contain one more card than the previous pile. Each top card is revealed. The 24 remaining cards are used face down as the stock. During play, you can reveal and move one card from the stock to the waste. The four foundation piles are empty at the beginning of the game.

In a round of Klondike Solitaire, you want all cards to end up in four piles in the foundation, each in one suit only. To achieve this, you must first reveal the cards in the tableau by sorting the sequences. Then, you can move single cards up to the foundation, starting each pile with the Ace. The pile continues up 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, and King on the top.

If you run out of options in the tableau, you can either undo one or more actions or deal one or more cards from the stock to the waste. If a card is useful in the tableau, you get to move it from the waste to the tableau. Once the stock is empty, the waste becomes the stock again.

Check our manual for a detailed explanation or take a look at our glossary to look up single terms quickly! Our in-game help will answer any questions coming up on the fly during playing.

Klondike Digital and at the Palace

A relevant aspect that helped digital card games gain popularity was removing inconvenient tasks. Those are, among others, shuffling and dealing the cards as well as keeping track of and tallying the scores. Especially in Klondike Solitaire, many cards are dealt and moved across the table repeatedly – many occasions for mistakes to happen. But a computer will reliably fulfill these tasks without getting bored.

At the Solitaire Palace, you get to play Klondike Solitaire as well. But we want to dial it up a notch by adding a multiplayer option: You get to play against people across the world in real-time! Everybody receives the same set-up. To ensure fair play, we use an independently certified algorithm for optimal shuffling. Speed is not the key to winning, but strategy is! The one solving the set-up most efficiently is the winner! Make an effort to use as few and pointed moves as possible in order to collect most points and come out on top.

At the Solitaire Palace, you can play without registering. Many players choose to do so, especially during their first rounds. But once you stop by more often, you will quickly realize: It is most fun as a registered user.

Make it Yours

After gaining practice, consider setting up a registered account. You can choose a name, take part in our free league system, join clubs, and compete in tournaments. An account is crucial for saving your progress in the long run. A smartphone can get lost and with it the locally saved scores. The phone can be replaced, unlike your successful hours of playing.

Your account is accessible from different devices via your user name and password. It displays the same status everywhere, of course. This way, you could play Solitaire on your phone after work and continue the party on your laptop when reaching your home and sofa.

Simply Play Better: The Premium Membership

The longer and more intensively you play, the more worthwhile an upgrade from the free account to the Premium membership will be!

It is up to you whether you want to play solo or set up a multiplayer game and if your table is public or not. As a Premium member, you get to select your fellow players and, if you wish, ignore individual players. Furthermore, you will receive additional Chips for consistent log-ins.

If you enjoy playing with additional rules, you will especially benefit from Premium: Set up your own tables with your favorite custom rulesTurn Three, Relaxed, or Easthaven, among others – at your pleasure. Once you tried the Premium advantages, you will quickly appreciate them!

Make your choice and face the challenge: Play Klondike Solitaire and remember to place the cards as smart as possible. Otherwise, your opponent might win!
